Gone are the days when women had to stay home because their sole responsibility is to take care of the family. Years have passed when women were a mere decoration.

Nowadays Asian women are making waves. Some are orchestrating growth in their chosen fields as they are given posts like prime minister and president, proving how valuable leaders they can be, creating a country that is dynamic yet balanced in a fashion only a woman would know how. And some are in the fashion industry where they are being recognized for their beauty and ability to influence people with their endorsements.

In the Philippines, former President Corazon C. Aquino was labeled as the global symbol for peace and democracy. She conquered her oppositions and gracefully won the battle, giving the country a chance to live freely and without fear. Aung San Suu Kyi, deposed prime minister of Myanmar was the recipient of the Nobel peace prize for her continued struggle against oppression and great effort to attain it peacefully. An Indian by the name of Indra K. Nooyi is presently the chairman and chief executive officer of PepsiCo. and in the fashion world, Daul Kim, a Korean national was hailed as one of the top supermodels in 2008 by the FashionTime magazine.

Indeed, Asian women have proven themselves worthy of greater responsibilities. Responsibilities that include not only looking out for what’s best for the children, but also what she could offer because of her strong personality and wit. Of course we would still be given a seat even when the bus is jam packed and have the door opened for us. It only goes to show that despite the transformation, we have retained the classic beauty and charm that Asian women in the past have been quite well known of.
